For those who missed it, last Saturday at Finsbury Park, London, took place the first event One Life in Europe. After taking his mother to California for his show at Coachella, Michael Bibi performed a duet with his father, Robin Bibi, in front of 45,000 people.
Following an epic intro, Robin entered like a true rockstar, hat on head and guitar in hand, and played the solo from Bocat, one of his son’s most famous tracks. But who is Robin Bibi?
Robin, Michael’s father, is one of the most important British blues guitarists. Active with his band since the ’90s, over the years he has collaborated with artists such as The Pretty Things, Jimmy Page, guitarist and founder of Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant, frontman of Led Zeppelin, and Ben E. King, author of the masterpiece “Stand by Me,” just to name a few.
With his band, he has played on the stages of the biggest festivals in the UK and beyond, having toured Europe and the United States with his guitar. Nominated in several categories at the British Blues Awards, he won the award for Best Guitar Solo in 2014.
We can therefore say that the guitarist who played with Michael Bibi on the stage of his first One Life in Europe show is far more than a proud father of his son’s musical journey and a music enthusiast; he is a true professional guitarist who has collaborated with icons of the historic English rock scene and beyond, and who has undoubtedly influenced Michael by raising him on music.
As the saying goes, like father, like son.
