Hello Techno Dancers community, today we are delivering you a very special exclusive content!
Together with ilMuretto we interviewed Nico Moreno, which told us about his upcoming summer tour, his connection with the Italian audience, and his new music. Enjoy!
Hello Nico, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. How are you doing?
Tired, as usual, but always going strong. And you?
All right, thanks. Happy to have you here! We saw your summer tour schedule. In June alone, you’ll be visiting eight countries across three continents, including Europe, Asia, and North America. Where are you right now? Are you excited about the upcoming summer season? Is there a country or city you’re particularly looking forward to playing in?
Currently, I’m on a train heading to Bordeaux, France, then off to Italy and Ibiza. I’m very excited for every date as usual, but I have a special mention for the Asia tour 😉
Touring life undoubtedly involves a stressful lifestyle with multiple flights, time zone changes, and few hours of sleep. How do you manage to maintain balance? Have you developed any tricks to make touring life easier?
Oh… if you have any tips, I’m all ears 😉 I think being able to sleep whenever possible, maintaining good hygiene, and exercising regularly helps to stay in good physical condition to handle this pace.
Your cap is surely a must-have in your tour luggage. What are the other essentials you can’t do without?
Haha, exactly, I actually have a cap box, I can carry six, which is already quite a lot. I need my laptop to download new tracks on tour and change my set, very essential.
Let’s talk about music. When did you start getting interested in techno, and why did you fall in love with it?
I started with techno at 20 years old, “10 years already…” Before that, I played general music, trap, US, EDM, etc. I discovered techno through friends and parties in Paris, and I loved the mentality, the atmosphere, and the energy that this style of music radiated. I started producing and mixing first, and then everything went very quickly for me, the public was very receptive to my music.
This Saturday, June 15th, you’ll be playing at ilMuretto, one of the most iconic and dynamic clubs in Italy. This will be your first time there, and you’re one of the most anticipated guests. What are you expecting from this experience?
Italy is home!! It’s actually the audience that has supported me the most this past year, grazie ragazzi! I don’t expect anything in particular from this date because I already know the crowd will be incredible as always in Italy. Just super excited to be behind the decks in this great club <3.
You’ve played all over Italy. What do you love most about our country? Is there a place that remains particularly close to your heart?
Kappa Festival in Torino, one of my favorites, Spazio 900 in Rome is always a great pleasure, but without a doubt, everywhere I go in Italy is just pure madness!
Amazing! On August 1st, you will play a B2B set with Gordo at the Dreambeach Festival in Almeria, Spain. Despite his past career as Carnage, it’s quite surprising to see your names together. Can you tell us how this collaboration came about?
Gordo wanted to do some harder, faster techno sets like he used to with Carnage. Being a good friend of mine, he proposed it to me. I love challenges, so I accepted with pleasure. You have to take risks in this job; otherwise, you stay in your place and don’t bring anything new. Whether people like it or not, it’s up to us to change the codes. I’m very confident about this B2B.
We completely agree! This year, you released your first album under your label Insolent Rave Records. How has the audience responded?
“YOU CAN’T STOP THE MOVEMENT,” the audience was super receptive, especially to tracks like “You Make Me Horny” or “2 be High with Warface.” I’m very happy with these two bangers, which are the foundation of this album, even though my favorite remains “Make Sacrifices For Glory.” I’m very proud of this album and seeing my audience dance to it.
In the electronic music industry, it’s common to release singles or EPs, while it’s quite rare to see an artist release an album. Why did you opt for a 10-track album? Did you have too many hot tracks on your laptop?
No, I just wanted to release an album to make a statement and show that I was also capable of producing 10 tracks, not just singles or EPs. It also gives me a bit more time for my shows without having to produce every month.
What are the plans for the future? Are you already working on new music to release, or are you focusing on the tours?
For now, I have some upcoming collaborations (I can’t announce the artists yet), but I’ll wait for the summer to pass before getting back to producing. I just bought my primary residence in my hometown, Caen in Normandy, where I’m building a big music studio. I’ll have to wait for the construction to finish to start producing again in a great environment and a professional studio. For years, I’ve been producing in my bedroom.
LET ME COOK.
Nico Moreno.
