How often have we heard the phrase “It was better when it was worse”? This is the concept behind the choice of James Hype and Meduza, who have decided to ban the use of cell phones at their Our House parties, which take place every Friday in the club room at Hï Ibiza.
In a video explaining the reasons for this choice, James Hype recalls the early 2000s Ibiza, when there were no phones and the atmosphere in the clubs was completely different. Since many of us didn’t have the chance to experience Ibiza in those years, the English DJ, along with Meduza, thought it would be a good idea to give us this opportunity by applying stickers on phone cameras in the style of Berlin clubs.
It’s worth noting that a warm, energetic dancefloor, where people are dancing instead of being on their phones, is a whole different experience, especially from the artist’s point of view. On the other hand, there’s nothing wrong with capturing a great moment or a song we like; after all, we all do it.
The problem, however, arises when you spend the whole evening with your phone in hand, losing the magic of the experience to record videos that 99% of the time we will never watch again, or worse, when it’s done for mere appearance, to show that we were at that event.
We are very curious to see how this turns out. What do you think? Do you agree with this choice?
