The word genesis, as a common noun, is undoubtedly feminine, as it was feminine in Latin, gènesis, and in Greek génesis: birth, origin, creation. The book in fact recounts the creation of the world, or ‘the genesis’ of the world.
“In the middle of the journey of our life, I found myself in a dark forest, for the straight path was lost. ”
The gates of the circles are open and the ferryman of souls has finally arrived!
Welcome to Genesys, the debut solo album by Matteo Milleri aka Anyma.
Genesys is a ride on the rollercoaster of life, a strong and hallucinating game.
Life is skydiving, it is taking risks, it is falling and getting back up, it is mountaineering, it is wanting to reach the top of yourself, and finding yourself unsatisfied and anguished when you fail.
The start of the album is emblematic, epic, Eternity the collaboration with German artist Chris Avantgarde
is the opening track of this immense masterpiece.
Everything revolves around the two phrases that are repeatedly uttered by a robotic voiceover.
“A reflection of eternity
A bond, forever and beyond’.
These verses, seem to capture the idea of a deep and lasting bond between individuals. The phrases ‘A reflection of eternity’ and ‘A bond, forever and beyond’ suggest a relationship that transcends time and space, emphasising its timeless and indissoluble nature.
It is common for such expressions to be used in contexts of love, friendship or even spiritual bonds, where the depth of the bond is emphasised as being beyond the constraints of mortal existence.
On a sonic level, this painting is something ancestral, imposing sounds and exciting synth riffs reminiscent of 80s atmospheres emphasise a strong emotional component.
Welcome to the opera, conveys a sense of support and companionship, particularly in the context of a dance and a magical experience together. The lines ‘Anything you need, when you’re dancing beside me’ suggest a strong bond and a willingness to provide whatever is necessary for a partner or friend. The reference to ‘opera’ and ‘fantastic scenes’ adds an element of grandeur and imagination, painting a dreamlike experience.
The repeated phrase ‘Dream now, I’ll show you how (oh, my knees)’ might suggest a sense of encouragement and guidance, as if one person is offering to lead or guide another through these ‘fantastic scenes’.
This track celebrates the unity, support and joy of shared experiences. The mention of ‘opera’ and ‘fantastic scenes’ adds a touch of whimsy and theatricality to the image, giving the lyrics a unique and creative touch.
Grimes’ distinctive falsettos add an eternal, otherworldly dimension, his hypnotic delivery further complementing the track’s voluminous and atmospheric qualities.
Samsara‘s collaboration with Sevdaliza was among the most anticipated tracks of the year.
The repeated phrases ‘Peace be with you’ and ‘I’m right there with you’ evoke a feeling of companionship and reassurance. The lines ‘I am the melody in your ear’ suggest a metaphorical presence in someone’s life, providing a calming and comforting influence.
These words could be interpreted as an expression of a spiritual or emotional bond, in which the speaker offers support and a sense of presence even in times of loneliness or uncertainty. The repetition of phrases adds emphasis and a rhythmic quality that can increase the emotional impact of the text.
A mix of introspection, strength and wonder. They touch on themes of connection, self-discovery and the universe in general.
Seven are the central themes we find in the piece:
1. **Facing Challenges:** “Hold me against the dark, I will never run for cover” suggests a willingness to confront difficulties without fear. It implies strength and determination in the face of adversity.
2. **Embracing Love and Eternity:** “Oh, how it feels to love, oh, how it feels to live forever” speaks to the powerful emotions of love and the desire for lasting experiences. It hints at the idea of something eternal and timeless.
3. **Letting Go:** “Leave all behind” is a recurring line that might signify a desire to move forward, let go of the past, and embrace new beginnings.
4. **Existence in the Dark and Beyond:** “In the darkness I live, in the eye of all seeing” could symbolize finding meaning and existence even in challenging or hidden places. “I’m the God of all heap” possibly represents a sense of control or mastery over difficult circumstances.
5. **Transcending Boundaries:** “And between the worlds we fly, I’m a sentient being” conveys the idea of transcending limitations, both physical and mental. The concept of being a “sentient being” implies awareness and consciousness.
6. **Inner Thoughts and Hope:** “I’m the thoughts that you keep, I’m the hope that you seek” touches on the intimate nature of thoughts and desires, highlighting the role of hope in driving us forward.
7. **Wonder and Exploration:** The repeated questions like “How does it feel to be young? How does it feel to love? How does it feel to breathe? How does it feel to live here?” reflect a sense of curiosity and exploration, encouraging contemplation of life’s experiences.
This track explores the themes of self-discovery, resilience and the interconnection between emotions, experiences and the universe.
This album is a masterpiece, and once again Matteo has made his mark.
